PAWAKA, a new label conceptualised by Indonesian designer, model, actress and environmental activist, Fahrani Empel (Fa’).
PAWAKA launched in 2015 with a limited collection for FW15 online and exclusively with Henrik Vibskov Boutique. This was soon followed by our official launch in September at Silmo (Paris) showing SS16 – a collection entirely made by hand in France, pairing Mazzucchelli Acetate and Carl Zeiss Vison Sunlens.
A forward and innovative interpretation drawn from the designer’s inspiration in evolution, Native American Philosophy, modernity, nature, and her constant source of her Indonesian heritage – the Dayak tribes of Borneo.
PAWAKA is Sanskrit word for Fire; and the code name of her grandfather in World War II. Paying homage to Fa’s native land, all PAWAKA style names are in numerical order of the Bahasa Indonesia Language.
Over the last five years, Fa’s vision in eyewear design has been eagerly received by international media. Sourced and featured consistently throughout editorial campaigns, runway collaborations, endorsed by major celebrities and selected by Vogue (Italia) in their annual list of “200 Emerging Designers to Watch” globally in 2015.
The synergetic effect when combining Fa’s design aesthetic and acclaimed insight into pop culture, with the craftsmanship of the finest European artisans; is a true reflection of the past, present and future.
