Garrett Leight is proud to announce their latest collaboration with critically-acclaimed, LA-based chef Kris Yenbamroong. This limited edition sunglass is the first collaboration to kick off a limited series of custom GLCO frames.
Kris Yenbamroong is the chef and owner of the popular Los Angeles restaurant, NIGHT + MARKET, which is one of the best restaurants in the city according to Los Angeles’s MVP food critic, Jonathan Gold. Kris was also recently honored with the prestigious James Beard nomination (which is like the Oscars of food) for 2017 Best Chef: West. An integral part of the LA culture that sits at the heart of GLCO’s DNA, Kris was a natural partner to with on a custom frame that celebrates the lifestyle and origin of both N + M and GLCO.
The GLCO x Kris Yenbamroong collaboration is named Larb King, an homage to both Kris’s alter ego and his love for food stalls in Thailand. The collaboration pairs our Linnie frame in Red Tortoise-Gold with exclusive, custom Spicy Brown gradient lenses. The concept stems from Kris’s own desire to add a slight tint to his pair of Linnie optical.
“While I generally don’t like to ‘mimic’ styles or time periods, I can say without a doubt that I’m sort of drawn to 70s stuff right now. It’s like a gravitational pull. So for these glasses, which are my opticals, I wanted to have a slight tint, but have them be light enough so that you can wear them indoors and not feel like a total asshole. A slight asshole, OK, but not a total one,” Kris jokes.
The launch of the collaboration frame will coincide with Kris’s feature in the latest issue of Spectacle, Garrett Leight’s in-house magazine that covers Southern California lifestyle. The current issue digs into Kris’s history and path to greatness.
“I’ve been a fan of Kris for years, living in LA. When I was thinking of ideas for content in Spectacle, he was at the top of my life,” says Leight. “Working on this project together then became another way of expressing the importance of community for our brand, while showcasing the talents of one of the greatest chefs in town.”
The GLCO x Kris Yenbamroong Larb King ($395) limited-edition collaboration is now available online and in GLCO stores.
